Students will learn to create works of art in clay utilizing the process of hand building. This class will give the students experience in making functional pieces as well as sculptural pieces, using a variety of techniques. Students will also obtain experience in painting bisque ceramic pieces using glaze paint and also acrylic paint. We will explore these fascinating landmarks' history, art, and architecture and influence on culture. 1:00-2:00 Mysteries in American History: Students will act as detectives and study the case of The Lincoln Assassination Conspiracy and The Lindbergh Baby Kidnapping. Students will look at journals and newspaper articles, letters and comics and debate, speculate, gather evidence, and judge. In this process students will use higher-level thinking skills to explore theses unexplained events that shaped American history. 2:00-3:00 Handwork: Students can choose a project depending on their skills, and experience. For example in Knitting: small bags,seal, belt, or ipod case. Crochet: small purse, flowers, belt, animals, place mats. Students will have a great time learning science while they have a snack! We will learn about saturated substances while we make lemonade, atoms while they make an apple snack, osmosis to make pickles, emulsions to make a tasty vegetable dip, states of matter while they experience liquid nitrogen slushies, and more! Biology and Life Science Dissection Lab: (Ages 9 and up) Enjoyed the Life Science class but want to “see” more? Taken a High School Biology class and like to add “with lab” to your official transcript? During the six weeks we will study in depth and dissect the following: a sheep kidney, “pluck” (heart, lungs and trachea), brain, and eye, a frog, and an earthworm. *** An additional $25.00 supply fee will apply for this class to cover the cost of the specimens, dissections kits, and gloves.
